Project of Distinction – St. Petersburg, FL
SIGNATURE SERIES EMPIRE TRANSIT SHELTERS
LOCATION
With over 265,000 residents, St. Petersburg, Florida is the fifth-most populous city in Florida. “The Sunshine City” is situated in the greater Tampa Bay Area sitting on the Pinellas peninsula near the Gulf of Mexico and is a popular tourist destination drawing over 6.5 million overnight visitors each year.
PROJECT SCOPE
With so much tourism, it makes sense that the popular and historical tourist destination, St. Pete’s Pier, created a Tram system to help combat traffic for its 10,000+ daily visitors. Stretching 26-acres the Pier District offers walking and bicycle paths, shopping, dining, swimming, concerts, and more.
Tolar designed and fabricated a 32-ft high-capacity tram shelter installed at the pier entrance.
The shelter features an expansive 32-ft by 6-ft flat-angled, fully welded Empire roof structure with 1/8” aluminum roof panels secured by gasketed pressure ribs and supported by angled rear posts. The sturdy all-aluminum shelter construction provides electrical access running inside the rear post with electrical components enclosed within the rear beam to power overhead LED security lighting.
Framed aluminum perforated rear wall panels showcase custom printed “St. Pete Pier” wording while the bright yellow tram logo decal applied to 3/8-in clear tempered glass end walls helps tourists easily identify the tram stop along their journey.
Lastly, ample bench seating provides a comfortable place to await the tram.
