Project of Distinction – St. Petersburg, FL
SIGNATURE & ECO SHADE BUS SHELTERS
LOCATION
St. Petersburg, Florida, known as “The Sunshine City,” lies on the Gulf Coast of Florida, forming an integral part of the Tampa Bay metro area. Incorporated in 1892, St. Petersburg boasts a colorful history with beautifully preserved historic sites and a notable arts scene. Known for its vibrant cultural life, the city is home to a number of attractions, like Tropicana Field, home of the Tampa Bay Rays, and the Salvador Dali Museum. The city hosts festivals and events throughout the year and supports a thriving academic atmosphere, including the University of South Florida St. Petersburg.
The city’s commitment to sustainability and quality of life is evident in its extensive public transit system, which includes buses and trolleys serving hundreds of stops, facilitating easy and eco-friendly transportation options for residents and visitors alike.
PROJECT SCOPE
In sunny St. Petersburg, Tolar Manufacturing is working with Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) to design, manufacture, deliver, and install 135, state-of-the-art Signature Series transportation shelters and Signature Series Eco Shades throughout the region.
Tolar provided the first shelters in December 2023, which consisted of ten, 4-ft by 8-ft shelters and four larger 4-ft by 12-ft shelters that each incorporate “Laguna Blue” acrylic roof panels, perforated aluminum wall panels with an Arctic Blue glass accent, and PSTA agency branding. The shelters also offer robust solar-powered lighting systems that provide riders with environmentally-friendly lighting. These shelters were created with customers in mind by prioritizing durability, comfort, and maintenance ease ensuring riders have a quality experience from the start of their journey.
Additionally, Tolar Manufacturing is designing and building five unique Signature Sunset EcoShade monopole shelters with integrated seating, providing amenities to sites where a limited footprint may prevent a full-sized shelter. The Signature Sunset EcoShade shelters consist of a 6-ft wide by 6-ft deep weather-protecting roof along with comfortable seating for two. The 80W solar security lighting is capable of providing power for integrated technologies, such as E-Paper Real Time Information Signage (RTIS).
Tolar Manufacturing was selected to provide these innovative transit amenities in part due to its alignment with PSTA’s commitment to sustainability practices. Tolar goes to great lengths to implement manufacturing processes and procedures that reduce the use of material resources, processing times, and consumable products to ensure an eco-friendly approach to the creation, manufacturing, delivery, and installation processes with all products while providing unparalleled quality and customer care.
