The perfect fit for distinctive community branding
LOCATION
Los Angeles Southwest College sits at the intersection of Western Avenue and Imperial Highway in South Los Angeles, the only community college serving South Central Los Angeles. Part of the Los Angeles Community College District, LASC awards Associate’s Degrees in more than 30 fields and occupational certificates in more than 45 disciplines. The campus is also home to Middle College High School of the Los Angeles Unified School District, where students can take college courses and earn their Associate of Arts Degree while completing requirements for a high school diploma.
PROJECT SCOPE
Tolar Manufacturing adapted 16-foot shelters from its Signature Custom line to form a transit station located in front of Los Angeles Southwest College. Working closely with the school’s project architect, the Tolar team created a solution that serves the transportation needs of the campus’s growing enrollment while meeting site restrictions and reflecting the school’s powerfully branded identity.
Illuminating the bus stops with environmentally responsible solar-powered lighting was another critical element of the project. Other environmentally friendly features include a custom powder coat finish that emits minimal VOCs into the local environment, and seating that features HDPE slats around an architectural aluminum frame.
