THE SOLUTION

Many bus stops sit far from a power source, and running electrical service to a shelter can mean trenching, permitting, and costs that stall an upgrade before it starts. That’s a real constraint for transit agencies working through street furniture programs and corridor improvements, especially in fast-growing cities trying to add stops and amenities on a timeline.

Riders still need light to feel safe after dark, real-time arrival information to plan their trip, and amenities that make waiting more comfortable, regardless of whether a stop sits near existing infrastructure. Agencies need a way to deliver all of it, at a single stop or across an entire network, without waiting on the grid.

PROJECT SCOPE

Tolar Manufacturing’s Solar Solutions line pairs roof-mounted photovoltaic panels with integrated battery storage to power more than lighting. An RMS80F solar lighting system, powered by 80W roof-mounted panels, provides under-roof dusk-to-dawn security lighting with a minimum of five days of autonomous operation. That same solar and battery platform extends to E-Paper real-time passenger information signs, digital displays, and other stop-level technology, all without a trenched electrical connection.

The line scales to fit the stop. PV Stop+ and PV Stop MAX pole-mounted lighting units bring solar lighting to individual stops along a corridor, with quality 13” e-paper real-time information display integration available. Agencies from Santa Maria, California, to Nashville, Tennessee, to Jacksonville, Florida, have deployed real time signage across their networks, whether the goal is one upgraded corridor or a citywide rollout. Our transit shelters can also integrate solar lighting directly into the roof structure at higher-traffic locations.
