SIGNATURE SERIES TRANSIT SHELTERS
LOCATION
The City of Santa Ana is located in Southern California about 10 miles from the California coast and approximately 50 miles south of Los Angeles. It is the second most populous city in Orange County. Founded in 1869, the city has a population of approximately 334,000 people, ranking fourth nationally among cities of over 300,000 residents, trailing only New York City, San Francisco, and Boston. A culturally diverse city, Santa Ana has been characterized by the NY Times as, “the face of a new California, a state where Latinos have more influence in everyday life—electorally, culturally and demographically—than almost anywhere else in the country.” Santa Ana is approximately four-fifths Latino. Santa Ana boasts a beautiful walkable downtown arts and cultural scene that honors and preserves the city’s heritage while building on new creative energy with galleries, theaters, boutiques and sidewalk cafes.
PROJECT SCOPE
Tolar Manufacturing has been designing and manufacturing bus shelters for Santa Ana for several years, creating unique and durable designs that reflect the character of this richly diverse community. Tolar’s latest project for Santa Ana, pictured above and top right, resulted in 12-ft Signature Sunset shelters that feature Sunset series extrusions and a radius roof with 1/8-in thick aluminum roof panels secured with gasketed pressure ribs for a watertight seal. The roof is supported by adjustable leveling shoes with spun escutcheon shoe covers, and stainless steel anchors. A perforated aluminum branding plaque with city logo discs is secured to the shelter end walls for easy identification. A revenue-generating media display kiosk, supported by UL-listed solar powered LED illumination, provides under roof security lighting. City branding continues through the steel strap bench and trash receptacle, which includes a hinged door. All amenities and shelters are protected with durable baked power coat finish.
